Tripropylene glycol also TPG, Tripropyleneglycol, Tripropylene glycol (mixture of isomers), 2-(2-(2-hydroxypropoxy)propoxy-1-propanol, ((1-methyl-1,2-ethanediyl)bis(oxy))bis-propano is a colorless, hygroscopic, viscous and odorless liquid. TPG are by-products that arise during the industrial production of 1,2-propanediol or dipropylene glycol.

Tripropylene Glycol (TPG) Manufacturing Process
TPG is usually prepared by reacting propylene oxide with water, resulting in a relatively low (≤45%) tripropylene glycol content required. Secondly, the products therefrom color and luster is dark and smell is bigger. Cause radiation curable monomer—the tri (propylene glycol) diacrylate of product preparation thus, content is lower, molecular weight distribution is inhomogeneous, three contract four propylene glycol diacrylates and above molecular weight monomer content are higher, the curing performance instability, make that to make the coating lacquer film hardness low, narrow application range; And product odour is big, does not meet environmental requirement, also unfavorable construction; And color and luster is darker, can not be used for high-grade light-coloured coating and printing ink.
The preparation of tripropylene glycol in our company is an improvement of the conventional method, which is characterized by the molar ratio of 1, 2-propylene diol and propylene oxide is 1:1 ~ 1.95, and the resulting product is purified, then injected with inert gas, and separated by distillation at 50-200℃ and vacuum degree ≤40kpa under absolute pressure.
Compared with the conventional technology, TPG reduces the content of tetrapropanediol and above molecular weight by-products in the reaction products that will eventually affect the curing performance, greatly improves the purity of the dishrink, up to 99.96%, and is conducive to improving the film performance of the final obtained coating. It can also reduce the amount of coke and carbonization, increase the relative volatility of rectification and reduce the energy consumption of rectification. In addition, high purity dipropylene glycol can be obtained at the same time.
