Preparation method：
This compound can be synthesized through the reaction of diethyl alcohol with methanol or by reacting diethylene glycol monomethyl ether with chloromethane (or dimethyl sulfate).

Subsequently, the purification process involves reflux and vacuum distillation in the presence of calcium hydride, lithium aluminum hydride, sodium borate, or sodium hydride. To address any amine-like odor in diethylene glycol, DME can be effectively eliminated by shaking it with a weakly acidic ion exchange resin before drying and distillation. As an additional precaution, 0.01% sodium boride can be added during storage to prevent peroxide formation.
